Evenity

Evenity (generic name: romosozumab-aqqg) is a prescription medication used to treat osteoporosis in postmenopausal women and increase bone mass in men who are at high risk for bone fractures. It is a monoclonal antibody that works as a sclerostin inhibitor, offering a unique “dual action” by both building new bone and slowing bone loss.

Key Facts
Administration: It is given as two separate injections (210 mg total) under the skin (subcutaneously) once every month.
Treatment Duration: The course of treatment is strictly limited to 12 months. After this period, patients typically transition to another osteoporosis medication (like Prolia or a bisphosphonate) to maintain the bone density gains.
Supplementation: Patients should take daily calcium and vitamin D supplements while on Evenity to prevent low blood calcium levels.

Important Safety Warnings

Cardiovascular Risk: Evenity carries a boxed warning for an increased risk of heart attack, stroke, and cardiovascular death. It should not be started in patients who have had a heart attack or stroke within the past year.
Hypocalcemia: It should not be used in patients with low blood calcium.
Other Rare Risks: Rare but serious side effects include osteonecrosis of the jaw (bone death in the jaw) and atypical thigh bone fractures.
