Euflexxa® (Italian)

Euflexxa® is a sterile, transparent, viscoelastic gel containing 1% sodium hyaluronate (10 mg/mL), used for the treatment of pain caused by osteoarthritis of the knee and other synovial joints. It is designed to replenish the natural hyaluronan in the joint, which decreases with age and osteoarthritis, thereby restoring joint lubrication and cushioning.

Product Description and Key Features

Active Ingredient: Highly purified, high molecular weight (2.4–3.6 million daltons) sodium hyaluronate produced via bacterial fermentation.
Non-Avian: The hyaluronic acid is not derived from chicken combs, making it suitable for patients with avian allergies.
Ingredients (per 1 mL): Sodium hyaluronate 10 mg, sodium chloride 8.5 mg, disodium hydrogen phosphate dodecahydrate 0.56 mg, sodium dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate 0.05 mg, and water for injections.
Presentation: Supplied in a box of 3 pre-filled disposable glass syringes, each containing 2 mL of solution.
Storage: Should be kept in a refrigerator (2°C – 8°C) in the original packaging, but can be stored at room temperature (15°C – 25°C) for up to 6 months within the product shelf life.

Indications and Administration

Usage: Euflexxa is used to relieve joint pain in patients who have not received adequate relief from conservative non-pharmacologic therapy or simple analgesics.
Dosage: Administered as an intra-articular injection (into the joint space) by a qualified doctor. The typical regimen consists of three weekly injections of 2 mL into the affected joint.
Duration: The pain relief effect can last for up to 6 months.

Warnings and Side Effects

Contraindications: Should not be used in patients with known hypersensitivity to hyaluronan preparations or in patients with infections or skin diseases at the injection site.
Side Effects: The most common side effects are transient pain, itching, redness, swelling, or warmth at the injection site.
Precautions: The safety of Euflexxa has not been established in pregnant or lactating women or children under 18 years of age.
